For the outside, make sure that you are cleaning your sponge or cloth regularly as you wash. Have two separate buckets of water, one for cleaning the sponge and one for getting it wet to wash the car. Do not skip the drying process when you are done washing, or else you will end up with streaks.
Vacuuming is one of the highest-impact things you can do to make the inside of your car look nice. It can be difficult to get hair and crumbs out of the carpet fibers, however. You can use a stiff nylon brush to loosen these things up, making it easier for the vacuum to grab them.
